critical exposure

Monday, August 15th, 2005

“Topless women on skates, bikes and foot drew a surging crowd of grateful gawkers in Columbus Circle yesterday when they doffed their shirts to affirm the right to bare a lot more than arms.”

You see, now this is the sort of thing that, as Mayor, I would support. The people’s right to get naked.

From an article in the NY Daily News.

(I had actually heard about this via nonsensenyc, but couldn’t make it to show my solidarity in person.)

July 6th

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

From all of us here at “Andy For Mayor” headquarters we wish you a healthy, happy and safe 4th of July. Easy on the firecrackers there kids!

After you’ve returned from your festivities and relaxations, please join my on JULY 6th at THE MARQUEE (on bowery) I will be having a campaign rally/town hall meeting as part of Dixon Place’s HOT Festival at 7:30 p.m. I will be getting a little help from my friends including Chris, Desiree and Joe. My lovely wife Rachel may be there, too. I’ll be giving a speech AND I will also be bring my video camera as part of my “listening campaign.” So if you’ve got issues, come down and let me videotape you making a brief statement of what you want me to do or what you would do if you were mayor.

I think the event costs $10 but you can stay after to see Greg Walloch perform - he’ll have a whole show. Also, the money doesn’t got to me, it’s to help pay for Dixon Place’s AMAZING new theater space that still needs a bunch of construction. so you’ll be doing community service as well as getting involved. right on.

June 16th

$ Free

Pioneer Theater
155 E. 3rd St. and Ave. A

The Federation of East Village Artists (FEVA) asks “should we stay or should we go?” at a forum about the future of arts and artists on the Lower East Side with the four candidates vying for Councilmember Margarita Lopez’s Council District 2 city council seat. Candidates Darren Bloch, Manuel Cavaco, Brian Kavanagh, Michael Lopez, Rosie Mendez, Chris Papajohn and Gur Tsabar will speak at this event, moderated by long time arts activist and FEVA board member Kevin Duggan.

Council District 2 includes Gramercy Park, the East Village, Lower East Side, and Murray Hill. The discussion at the forum will focus on issues that affect the artistic community of the East Village and Lower East Side, including artist housing, healthcare, and performance space, with opportunities for citizens to dialogue directly with the candidates. This event is free and open to the public.

First Serious, Then Funny

Friday, June 10th, 2005

For those of you concerned with affordable housing in this city, you might want to check out this event. The NYC Rent Guidelines Board will hold public hearings on June 14th and June 16th on the “preliminary” guidelines for rent stabilized tenants of 2 to 4.5% for a one year lease and 4 to 7% for a two year lease (affecting those signed between October 1, 2005 and September 30, 2006). Tenant turnout at these hearings is crucial to avoiding a third year of high increases. Call the RGB to sign up to testify at one of the public hearings at 212-385-2934. Met Council will be happy to help you prepare testimony.

Manhattan:
Thursday, June 16th 10 am to 6 pm
Cooper Union, 7 East 7th Street
(corner of 3rd Ave) Manhattan
(Trains: R/W to 8th Street; 6 to Astor)

If you’re in a rent-stabilized apartment then this could be a good chance to be heard. And check out the Metropolitan Council on Housing’s website for info on affordable housing, tenant’s rights and more.

Now the fun stuff - remember that this Sunday June 12th at Galapagos:

“Say Goodnight Gracie Mansion” -An All-Star Evening of Alternative Comedy and petition-signing party for AndyForMayor.org
