Andrew Rasiej

Friday, May 20th, 2005

The best part of announcing my mayoral candidacy so far has been learning about all the people who are already out there doing great work. There is a real groundswell of activity going on. Had coffee with Liza this morning and learned about Andrew Rasiej, candidate for public advocate:

Hi. I’m Andrew Rasiej, and in a few weeks I will be launching a new kind of political campaign. Officially, I will be running for Public Advocate of New York City. But my ultimate goal in getting elected is to get you and your neighbors connected — to each other and to our government.

Specifically, I want to bring together the thousands of public advocates already at work in this great city and tap the full power of their hearts and minds to recharge our democracy and re-imagine our possibilities.

I also want to bring our government into the 21st Century and tap the full potential of new technologies to make information more accessible, city services more efficient, and our economy more competitive.

Along the way, I want to end the top-down, intellectually-bankrupt, money-grubbing politicking of the past — and start talking up to people and valuing them for something more than the checks they can write.

That’s what my campaign will be about — unifying and amplifying the voices of all New Yorkers, empowering our people and communities, and ultimately making our government work for us once again. After all, it’s your city. Isn’t it time you had a real say in how it’s run?

Very exciting stuff.

In news-about-town, the taping of The Majority Report tonight at The Tank tonight should be lots of fun. I’m going to try and be there.
